2024 Flute Fall-In Retreat Huge Success |
Thanks you Woodland Heart Ancient Flute Alliance |
This 4-day flute retreat, in memory of the late Leonard "Lone Crow" McGann, was a huge success Oct. 17-20, 2024 at Camp Bethel, Fincastle, Va. alongside the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, thanks to the Woodland Heart Ancient Flute Alliance. Member Stuart Hill, invited Sanctuary on the Trail to lead Indigenous discussions and prayer paintings. Flute friends attended from across the United States including Alliance leaders Kathy J. Owen, Karen Covey Moore. A special shout out to Chef Kitty McCann, son Eric and team who prepared delicious meals and activities for the 30+ attendees. Thanks everyone for inviting us and for all of the hard work that went into making this truly a memorable, diverse and enjoyable event. See you all next year.
HistoryThe Woodland Heart Ancient Flute Alliance began with the Potomac Native American Flute Festival in 2004. This four-day event celebrated the Native American Flute from 2004 to 2014, except for 2012 and was held in Northern Virginia and Maryland. It was driven by the desire to bring flute makers, performers, and flute players together.

Flute Hike by the Old Oak Tree
Flute Prayer Painting Workshop for Hurricane Victims
Flute attendees created these prayerful paintings using the sacred number seven (7) as a foundation. Each person painted prayers for victims of Hurricane Helene along the Ashville North Carolina mountains to Tennessee and to Florida.
We created a separate hummingbird (or bird) painting (below) to carry flames of peace and hope from our Blue Ridge Mountain in Virginia. The landscape and hummingbird paintings are intended to hang together as reminders to keep these families in mind as their communities heal and recover. |
