Mini-Sunset Indigenous Gathering Held Thursday, June 27, 2024 in Loudoun County, VA
Let the Spirit of this Decolonized Exhibit Catch YouClose to 80 people attended the outside sunset event with about 50 people touring our decolonized exhibit inside on Thursday evening, June 27, 2024, at the E.E. Lake Store at 18351 Railroad Street, Bluemont, VA 20135.
People brought their lawn chairs and listened to Patrick Littlewolf Brooks (Tuscarora) play flute and demonstrate men’s Northern traditional dance. Carrie Fox (Lanape) demonstrate her People's Indigenous language through the spoken word and song; her guest was Doris Poulin who demonstrated various drums. Valeria Dawn White (Cherokee) demonstrated the healing jingle dress dance. Rene' Locklear White (Lumbee) sang Southeastern women's song and gave guided tours of the exhibit. Guests shopped indigenous arts and crafts for sale with Ashliegh Cristine Clark Brooks (Cherokee, Tuscarora) that included: Tuscarora-handmade silver jewelry, beadwork and carved work; Southeastern Woodland design books; and Indigenous maps.
